Barcodes

I have posted this post (you will get what I mean) to help anyone who may be looking for something different ;-))

This might seem an unusual title, but read on, and you will learn why I have wrote about this.

In today’s world people consider their time very precious, often too precious to carry out simple tasks like typing a web address (or a URL (Universal Resource Locator to give the proper name for it)), so how could you help that busy person find your website ?

Many of you will undoubtedly seen things like this in magazines:

which, when scanned with barcode readers, found on many of today’s smartphones, will take you to various websites (try the one above).

One idea, for those looking for something different on a business card, would be to include one of these on your business card that would direct a potential client to your website.

On the site below:

Barcodes Inc website

you can enter your web address in the box and a script will generate a unique barcode for you, in varying sizes, as either a PNG (Portable Network Graphic) or JPEG, which when used as suggested above may give you an edge above someone who simply has their website on their business card.

On tip though is that laser printers produce a more crisp image than inkjet printers, so even though they might not work on a card that you have printed at home, on a professionally printed card these should work better.  Again look at the different sized images available to prevent shrinking down a larger image only to have problems later.

Hope this helps.

Decisions, Decisions...Option b

Well, you know what they say about good intentions ....

Due to work dropping off, hopefully not for long, I am dropping on to the City & Guilds 7512, until work and money improve, so below is the blog address that I am using for the course:

this blog will continue, although some of the newer posts may remain as drafts until I officially rejoin the course.

Previous Projects

Having taken photographs for a number of years, I have been called up on to produce photographs for other people.  These include some of the companies that I have worked for who have asked me to photograph events, etc.

These include:

  • Location photo shoot for Julia B for the promotion of her sailing single handed across the Atlantic, to raise money for charity (this image was printed in the Derbyshire Now magazine which did a write up on the event, unfortunately my name was not credited to the photograph)
  • Location Photo shoot for a local rock band, during a practice session, for an article for the Burton Mail (the images were provided but never used, as the interview with the band never took place)
  • Photographs taken at an employer's site of some of their new plant which were for sales leaflets, the companies logo was photo edited onto some of the newer plant (no credit to these photographs were printed on these leaflets)
  • Photographs taken at another employer's property, for their internal magazine, to feature some of the fund raising events for charities. Some of this work was also used for promoting the event in advance (the Christmas Fair 2005 charity event for Rainbows Children's Hospice, which culminated in the 'Weakest Link' competition was an opportunity to produce photo edited graphics both before and during the event)
  • Photographs, and videos, taken of another local band for promotion and business cards.

The Undiscovered Country

William Shakespeare, once described the future as the Undiscovered Country.

Not that I am an expert in literacy, as it also was the title of a Star Trek movie !

I have studied photography from level 2 (NCFE) up to a level 3 CG7512 diploma at Burton College.  Previously I have studied courses in business, computers, administration, etc also at the college.

This course will combine other previous courses and could lead to a new career direction for me.

The big decision for me involves the cost, so watch this space !
